Ladies and gentlemen...please fasten your seatbelt, stow your carry-on luggage beneath your seat and make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position, because today we are taking the the Red Wing Shoe Store Amsterdam collection to the next level. Today marks the release of a very special Red Wing style. More specifically, a Red Wing Shoe Store Limited Edition coming over all the way from Japan. It is a style that is uniquely different from any other Red Wing boot that we currently have on offer. We're talking about the 8011 Munson Ranger. Munson what?! Yes, Munson Ranger! We'll explain everything in a bit.
Throughout his career, Dr. Munson studied feet. He argued that the construction of shoes should not be led by fashion and style, but by the human foot and its physiological requirements.
Meet the 8011 Munson Ranger: Style, leather and other features The Munson Ranger is a one-of-a-kind Red Wing style with some very distinct features. Most notably, there are the toe-caps. While they quite similar to those of the Iron Ranger, they also share features with the toe-caps that you usually see on quarter brogue dress shoes. This sort of toe-cap was a staple style during the 1920's and 30's and used to be very well represented in the Red Wing catalogues. In addition to the toe cap, we definitely want to mention the leather that the boots come in. It is called White Ash 'Settler'. It could be described as light-tan with tints of fawn and copper, but we have never really seen anything like it before. As can be expected from Red Wing boots, they feature a Goodyear Welt. To top it off, they come with an amazingly solid Brown Nitrile Cork outer sole. Dr. Munson and the Munson last Now onto the million-dollar question: Munson?! The name Munson Ranger comes from a military last developed by Dr. Munson in 1912. Throughout his career, Dr. Munson studied feet. He argued that the construction of shoes should not be led by fashion and style, but by the human foot and its physiological requirements. In other words, he thought that shoes should allow your feet to move naturally, especially in the case of the military! This is why he developed the Munson last, a last for military shoes that allowed for natural movement. The last became very popular after its introduction. It didn't take long for it to be used in work boots too. The Red Wing Shoe Company was an early adopter of this last. In 1928, nearly half of all the styles in the catalogue had a Munson last. If you are interested in learning more about Dr. Munson and his vision on feet and shoes, definitely have a look at his book The Soldier's Foot and the Military Shoe, available A one-of-a-kind Limited Edition At the Red Wing Shoe Store Amsterdam, we are super excited about being able to offer the 8011 Munson Ranger to you.
