Today marks the release of the Red Wing Shoe Store Exclusive limited edition 2995 Lineman in Black Retan. The style is normally exclusive to Japan, but it will be offered at the Red Wing Amsterdam store for a limited time only. It is a followup to the wildly appreciated Limited Edition 2996 Lineman in Cigar Retan that was offered back in October. Like the previous Red Wing Shoes Lineman, we expect this all-black beauty to run fast!
The “Wide panel” lace-to-toe design is unique to the Lineman. It looks awesome, but serves an important purpose most of all. An increase in the demand for electrical line workers in the early 20th century led to some rethinking of the gear necessary for the job. One out of three line workers were said to be taken accidentally while on duty and taking safety measures was very important. Linemen ended up preferring a lace-to-toe design because it allowed for tighter adjustment of the boots enabling them to keep their feet right in place. The design feature was first applied on Red Wing Lineman shoes in the early 40’s.
The leather used in the 2995 Lineman is called Black Retan. It is a smooth-finished leather featuring a polished surface that really brings out the beautiful, natural characteristics of the material. Combined with a traditional Goodyear Welt and a hard-wearing nitrile cork outsole, the 2995 Lineman is a true revival of the classic Red Wing style and durability. Its all-black aesthetic still fits perfectly in every man’s wardrobe.
Remember, the shoes are available for a very limited time only. So get them here or be sure to drop by the Red Wing Amsterdam Store sometime soon. See you there!
